TYA 2012 Baseball and Softball Registration Now Open!

Greetings, and Happy New Year!

It’s that time of year again – and the on-line registration system for TYA Spring Baseball and Softball is now available.  As we have done for several years, we are asking all interested players and volunteers to register via the TYA website / Sports Sign Up system, print your invoice, and bring the invoice and a check in to one of the walk-in registration sessions.  These sessions are scheduled for:

·         Saturday January 21, 2012 – 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon – Walton Farm Elementary School

·         Saturday January 28, 2012 – 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon – Walton Farm Elementary School

With ever increasing costs for uniforms, equipment, umpires, field maintenance, insurance and other expenses, you will notice our fees have been increased in 2012.  We regret the need increase these fees and remain vigilant in managing our costs, but unfortunately as our costs go up so must our registration fees.  Be aware when comparing our prices with other local organizations, however, that TYA Baseball and Softball do not have any "forced fund raisers”.  There are no hidden fees introduced by forcing you to buy and sell candy, cookies or other commodities.

TYA is always looking for local businesses to sponsor our teams.  Sponsor names appear on our website and are printed on the T-shirts worn by our players throughout the season.  We encourage you to patronize our sponsors and, when you do, let them know how much you appreciate their support of the TYA program.  If you are a business owner, or have an employer who might be interested, I encourage you to consider sponsoring one or more TYA sports teams.

The baseball program in particular is looking to identify those in our organization who have practical skills which may be of considerable value to the organization – carpenters, electricians, plumbers, landscapers, fence installation and repair, computer skills, etc.  If you have knowledge of or experience on one of these areas, please complete the on-line skill survey form so we can contact you should the need for such expertise arise.

The Baseball and Softball programs have been busy during the off season preparing for our Spring 2012 sports seasons.  You are encouraged to offer your suggestions and commit your time to helping these be the best youth athletic programs we can make them.  Each sport has an Executive Committee of dedicated volunteers eager to offer the youth of our community a quality athletic experience.  Get involved – this is your program!

Thank you for your continued interest and support … we look forward to seeing you around the ball-field very soon this spring!

5 Helpful Tips for Keeping Your

Softball Glove Alive

Taking care of your softball glove is important for a number of reasons.  First of all, it will probably catch and/or stop more balls for you if it's properly cared for.  Second, it's expensive to keep buying new gloves simply because you didn't take care of the one you had.  Third it simply shows respect, honor, and pride for the game, your equipment and in what you do.

With that said, here are 5 Tips for Keeping your Softball Glove Alive!

1.  Do NOT sit on it - this is an absolute no-no!  Do not sit or let anyone else sit on your glove.

2.  Keep a ball in it when you're not using it - this helps keep your glove from getting smashed into undesirable form while in your bag, in your car, or anywhere else you may put it when you're not using it.

3.  Don't throw it or toss it down (especially on dirt or concrete) - another absolute no-no!

4.  Clean it - a little saddle soap and water on a cloth/towel works great.
5.  When setting your glove down on the ground, place it pocket down (as shown in the picture above).

"Are you a Diamond?"

We as coaches are like jewelers.

Jewelers don't make diamonds, they find them.

They can polish them up.
They can make them look prettier.
But at the end of the day the pretty rock in the ring was already a diamond.

Sometimes glass can be cut to look pretty too.
It can fool those that don't know what they are really looking for.

So how do you know if you are a diamond or cut glass?
Through testing under pressure.

Every one looks like a diamond when they are winning.

But when the game is 15-0 against your team...

  • Your coach is yelling at all of you
  • Parents are yelling at players for swinging at the wrong pitch
  • Or yelling about not swinging at the right pitch
  • Even your best friend on the team gives you the eye for dropping a popup
  • And the pressure is revealing a lot of polished glass around you...

Because the pressure is making them all crack.

What I want to know is...

    ARE YOU A DIAMOND?
